English strategies course
After I learned about Reading Strategies with Teacher Usa Noytim. I had gotten a lot of strategies for reading in my daily life. The first, I learned about how to write a blog because I never write a blog since I was born. Everytime, teacher began a new lesson. I got the new reading strategies. Since the beginning course to ending course, I have used many strategies such as scanning, skimming, predicting and guessing the words these help me in learning English. During the latter course, I got previewing, reading faster, finding reference and summary paragraph from story.
However, I like this course because it is funny. Teacher is very kind and generous although we are very noisy it made her moody but she is not bored with us.
In my opinion
I think this course is very good and suitable for the students who are majoring in English because this course has lots of methods to read in English. I want teacher to assign more homework and give a lot of point to homework.

Week 14 : Classic Ann Landers

The topic is “Classic Ann Landers” teacher checked our name and gave us a handout about Ann Landers.

Next, the teacher assigned us read the letter of Ann Landers to advice to the problem others and do exercise : Read each letter and its response again and answer the questions. While we were reading, the teacher opened the Cambridge dictionary to find some words for teaching us about pronunciation and meaning of its.
I think the summary of the story was difficult because sometimes I make it mistake. But this problem was solved by the teacher and my friends that helped me by editing and telling “what is correct”. I think the letter in these stories were easy because I read it to comprehend. I used reading faster, scanning, skimming, and reading for detail.

Week 13 : Book and Novel

Then teacher checked our list name . She gave a handout to us, that about "books and novels". we learned the paragraph reading strategies "books and novels". It had eight short describe of books and novel. First, the teacher gave us the handout and assigned us to do exercise 2 that read the questions and then skim the descriptions for the answer. We did it quickly. And then, she gave corrective feedback.
After that, she assigned us to read again and answer the question follow.
1. Did Princess Diana have a happy marriage life?
=>No, she didn’t. she trapped in a loveless marriage, who has suffered from chronic illness and loneliness.
2. What are the four aspects of the UK and the USA mentioned in the book?
=> People, Geography, History, and Institutions.
3. Who won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize? For what aspects?
=> Aung San Suu Kyi for her heroic efforts on behalf of democracy in Burma.
4. What is included in the book “A Life for God: Mother Teresa Treasury?
=>It includes a brief biography, conversation with Mother Teresa herself, Heart of Joy, Loving Jesus, and Suffering into Joy.
After that, the teacher told us to summarize eight short describe of books and novel with friends who sat next to me. Then, she opened the Cambridge dictionary for teaching us to pronounce some words follow.

I used the skimming, scanning, and reading faster for read eight short describe.I think, I found the obstacles for read faster. I think, scanning for the answer was easy for me.I felt happy for this lesson, though sometimes, I can’t answer the question correctly.

Then, the teacher assigned us to think and talk with my friend that was about “What are obstacles to faster reading. So, I told my friend that “I think we may be worrying the meaning of difficult words that we don’t know while we read.”
I think this lesson is very hard because it had many unseen vocabulary.I discussed with my friends when I have problems.

The teacher started her class at 08.30 Am. we studied about “Extensive reading” that continued from last week ago and started to learn about “Read faster”. Before we learned, we sent the homework, the teacher talked about the first homework that was “weekly healthy diet”. And then, she opened the Cambridge dictionary for teaching how to pronounce the words and we tried to speak follow it.

Week 11 : Extensive reading

The teacher started her class at 08.30 Am. She assigned us to pre-reading 1, pre-reading 2 and discuss with my partner about our opinion how useful is reading alone in developing the following language skill. We used to reading strategies : finding referencs, previewing, guessing the word, meaning and scanning.
I thought this lesson was very hard. I would try to practice. It was bored because she assigned us to read a lone text. She sumed up the text each of paragrah.

Week 10 : Chapter 4 scanning

Today, the class started at 08.35 Am. The teacher told our mid-term test. She assigned that we did pre-reading " hotel dinner." We used to reading strategies : scanning, skimming, predicting, guessing the word etc. And then, we made a group of four person to do exercise by scanning skill.

We did exercises. I thought that it's not too bad I must speed reading. I was okay! Overall, this lesson is too bored and not to interesting. Finally, I waiting time out.

Week 9 : West Meets East (1)

The teacher started her lesson at 08.30 Am. She told our quiz score together with check the name but our mid-term test score we weren't to know because she hasn't checked the examination yet.
After that, we continued to learn from last week. We read "West Meets East" and used to reading strategies : guessing the word, skimming, finding the references, scanning, predicting.
We did exercise after we had a break. We discussed the questions with my partner. In my opinion this lesson was easy for me.

Week 8 : Fashion (2)

Today, The teacher was sick. My friends in class were noisy too. I felt annoying. She taught to continue in unit 8 fashion about "Splitting Hairs" and answered the questions in lesson. I used reading strategies : scanning, skimming, finding the keyword, predicting the word. And then, she taught that how to use the conjunction words and did activities. We talk about in my opinions with partner and answered the question.

Homework: Teacher gave us wrote to opinion about if my university has decided that all female students should have long hair and all male students should have crew cut.
Answer: I think it good idea and make to neat look but it seem to be out of date regulation. In my opinion, I want to wear any hair style which make me tidy and look good at the same time.

Week 7 : Fashion (1)

The teacher started her lesson by giving us a passage to read about "Famous Fashion Item" and to discuss in our group. After that, she gave a hand out about this passage and let us do the exercises in it. I thought these activities were funny and joyful. These activities cover all skills of reading strategies : scanning, skimming, predicting and guessing the words. She also taught us about the definition of vocabulary in the lesson and listened the pronunciation of the words from Cambridge's dictionary online. I thought it was because we could follow the pronunciation of each word correctly.

Finally, she summarized the main idea and the details of each paragraph from the passage. It was so difficult for me. I learned how to use "use to" in sentences and I also enjoy with the scrabble letter activity. I thought discussing about the fashion with my partner. In today's class was exciting and really happy.

Week 6 : Today's Technology (2)

The teacher started the class by asked us that " What are advantages of using the internet? " and shared to think with in group. She taught acrongm such as
Key pal = a person with whom one becomes friendly by exchanging e-mails.
Emoticon = is a pictorial representation of a facial expression using punctuation marks, number and letters.
RUOK = Are you okay?
LOL = Laugh out loud.
CU = See you.
OMG = Oh my God.
After that, she gave to us talked about Researchers worry as teens grow up online and checked the information. I thought I would read about in the text and used reading strategies was predicting then found the words in italics on reading. Matched each the word with its meaning, I used reading strategies were scanning and guessing meaning from context. Marked each statement Researcher's opinion or Teenager's opinion , I used reading strategies was finding references.
Teacher assigned that found the vocabulary and sticks the picture about fashion then on paper. Don't forget to bring it if who forget not allow come to the class on next week and she ordered to I answer the questions on weblog.
1. How much time spent online do you think is too much? Why?
Ans. I think who spent to time online over 12 hours is too much because it will makes to fatigue brain.
2.Do you think that everything can be communicated by e-mail? Or are some things best said face to face? What examples can you give?
Ans. In my opinion somethings can be communicated by e-mail but sometimes said face to face will better depend on at that time situation such as I need to congratulations on Birthday to someone. I should will says face to face to him or her better than send by e-mail because it will the most sincerely.
3. Would it bother you if people lied to you online about their age or appearance? Why or why not?
Ans. No, I wouldn't I think that someone have a secret personal.

Week 5 : Today's Technology (1)

First, the teacher began the class by she tested student's background knowledge activities about today's technology. She gave a headline "What technology to use to learn English" and shared the answer in our groups. She selected someone to talk on the class. She handed out the sheet to everyone. We did pre-learning activities together. After that, the teacher gave us write the answer on white board in front of the class.

The first, we read "Japan Earthquake : Tsunami hits north-east " and " California fires: Evacuation order given to 3,000" by used reading strategies : skimming skill, guessing skill, scanning skill and predicting skill. The news had three parts : heading, lead and body. Next, we discussed in groups about it. we could underline the unfamiliar word after that found meaning from dictionaries English-Thai online on my phone and answered the questions.

Last monday, the class started late because we weren't set the equipment and the teacher wasn't happy and admonish. she said " we must have a readiness more than before." After that, the teacher opened the video in YouTube about natural disaster was Japan Tsunami and she assigned the activities, we discussed together about Japan Tsunami and presented in front of the class. The teacher gave to sheet for everyone. We read the news and answered the question. I must used skimming skill, scanning skill, predicting skill and guessing skill for answer the questions. Week 1 : Healthy Diet

Last monday, before started the lessons, the teacher introduced herself and told about the experience from abroad. She gave a course syllabus and we promised about agreement my classroom.
Afterwards, the teacher gave we discuss about " What strategies do you use in reading? " with my friends. I thought that it was very difficult for me because I hated the reading, I didn't like it! But after that I must to begin about reading and I should try in order to increase skills of reading. I must keep on your reading English practicing by remember vocabulary, article, short story etc.
The teacher taught about Healthy and Unhealthy Food including explain the difference by the teacher gave me look the pictures. I enjoy with it and I love to eating.
In conclusion, this subject will help to improve reading skill myself and makes me understand reading English. My attitudes towards the lesson is very easy if I read the additional book.
